Ontario expands at-home care funding — what families should ask now

Saturday, June 13, 2026 · 3 min read

Ontario Health atHome expanded eligibility for publicly funded personal-support hours. Families already on service can request a reassessment; new applicants should call their regional intake line and ask specifically about the updated criteria.

What happened

Ontario Health atHome quietly widened the criteria used to allocate publicly funded personal-support worker (PSW) hours this month, with a focus on clients living alone and clients whose primary caregiver is over 70.

Why it matters

The change does not auto-apply. A family already receiving service must phone their care coordinator and ask for a reassessment under the updated eligibility framework. Without that call, the existing care plan stays put.

What to do this week

  1. Find your loved one's care coordinator's direct line (it's on the last assessment letter, not the 310-CCAC line).
  2. Ask: "Can we book a reassessment under the updated eligibility criteria?"
  3. If you're a new applicant, call 310-2222 and use the same phrase.

We'll track waitlist movement over the next month and report back.
