Alberta posted 2026 continuing-care accommodation rates — the gap to watch

Saturday, May 23, 2026 · 4 min read

Alberta's 2026 continuing-care accommodation rates rose roughly 3% across standard, semi-private, and private rooms. The number that matters most is the gap between the rate and the resident's monthly income — that's the figure that determines whether you'll need to top up.

The headline numbers

Alberta's monthly continuing-care accommodation charges for 2026:

  • Standard room: ~$2,107
  • Semi-private: ~$2,540
  • Private: ~$2,949

Each is up roughly 3% over 2025.

The number nobody talks about

The rate isn't the interesting figure. The interesting figure is the gap between the rate and your loved one's monthly income (CPP + OAS + GIS + any pension).

If income is below the standard rate, Alberta's Accommodation Standards protect a minimum disposable amount (~$322/month) — the province absorbs the rest. If income is above, the family pays the full sticker.

What to do

  1. Add up monthly income from all sources.
  2. Subtract the standard rate.
  3. If the result is negative, you likely qualify for protection — ask the site administrator for the Resident Income & Assets form.

We'll publish a fuller cost worksheet in next month's long-form guide.
